About wind, addiction and surprise

1. About the wind part, made me realise that nature itself is a kind of balance, with complex elements , like sun and wind work together, how to express this complexity in a digital way is a possibility for next step, and secondly it also make me think about passive interaction worked better than active (in terms of rest).

2. Does nature have the potential to be addictive? Electronic addiction maybe due to the reward , but it cannot be characterised. Due to the nature’s complexity, many interval are created to interrupt “continuous rewards”.

3. Sudden shocks can bring surprises effects. Is it could be the next step to combine electronics and nature to create surprises in the working environment?

DRAFT OF P6

WHAT: I hope to study the digital presentation way of nature (1) and attract people’s attention in the office environment. (2) This can help people to solve their emotions problem at work.

WHY: This can help peoole solve the numbness in the working (learning) process. It could make resting a natural behaviour rather than artificial deliberate.

HOW: From the existing theories, I think I should first study the points that how to attract everyone’s natural attention, through the narrative of the office environment?

What if: After that, people will have less psychological pressure on the office, and will not have too much need to have fear or self-motivation. My project should be better to help the stakeholders to integrate their projects into people’s life.

UNIT 2’s plan

In this period I need to find a suitable way of the action research. Previous projects was more about preliminary research , reference and interviews. So I hope to find a reasonable, effective and sustainable exploration goal. At present, many people have made good research and conclusions in the field of natural healing and Biophilia design, so combining with the Internet and electronics seems to be a more special and better direction for me. My own field is related to visual design. Maybe I will add some visual themes in my topic, such as: how to apply visual design to digital nature in the office environment? I’m not sure whether I need to continue to insist on psychology (treatment) as the core of research. First of all, it is too professional. Secondly, numerable articles and books have proved its effectiveness, the action is more important than the deep understand( Maybe audience also don’t have time to learn). I personally don’t think it makes much sense to continue to prove something that has been qualitative.

Stakeholder and Target Audience

Interview with the operator of a natural landscape video account

Q: Do you think your account can help people relax well?

A: Yes, some people said it is very decompressed

Q: How effective is the spread?

A: No, people don’t have enough time.

Q: Have you considered when to send these content to attract everyone? Or when do you want?

A: At night, because most people doesn’t have to work at this time.

Q: Have you tried to divert everyone’s attention (during daytime)

A: No, it will be more painful for me to deliberately attract everyone.

Q: No need to adjust during the day when everyone is busy?

A: I didn’t think about it. This is my hobby. I don’t want to take up my working time. It’s better to relax in the evening. If this is my job and I need to make a living from it, maybe I won’t. Have such enthusiasm.

2. audience

Q: Do you think there is always a sense of burnout during work?
A: Yes, I think it is difficult to avoid.

Q: How did you respond?

A: During work, sometimes I listen to some podcast that , this will not affect my work. Lunch break is more important, I enjoy the feeling of going to a restaurant alone in the middle of work day.

Q: Do you think it is necessary to set some rest time during work?

A: I feel that it may be effective, but I feel a little naive, just like a child.

Q: Do you think there is a better way?

A: Maybe it’s the atmosphere of the general environment itself. It is okay for the company to designate a break time in the morning and afternoon. The atmosphere of the company will also have a great effect on emotions.

Attention restoration theory

Attention restoration theory (ART) asserts that people can concentrate better after spending time in nature, or even looking at scenes of nature. Natural environments abound with “soft fascinations” which a person can reflect upon in “effortless attention”, such as clouds moving across the sky, leaves rustling in a breeze or water bubbling over rocks in a stream. Philosophically, nature has long been seen as a source of peace and energy, yet the scientific community started rigorous testing only as recently as the 1990s[1] which has allowed scientific and accurate comments to be made about if nature has a restorative attribute.

People always like to introduce similar methods into the environment such as disease treatment, but it can act in a wider area in more ways.

It would be a better way to combine virtual electronic technology and nature to bring to people.

Overwork is consuming people

Overwork refers to the situation where the work is overworked, too much work or too long. It is also related to the worker’s workload exceeding his ability [1], which often causes physical and psychological related diseas

Overwork is the expression used to define the cause of working too hard, too much, or too long. It can be also related to the act of working beyond one’s strength or capacity, causing physical and/or mental distress in the process.

Compulsory, mandatory, or forced overtime is usually defined as hours worked in excess of forty hours per week “that the employer makes compulsory with the threat of job loss or the threat of other reprisals such as demotion or assignment to unattractive tasks or work shifts.”

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overwork

A lot of news and reports also show that working at home has greatly reduced the boundaries between people’s life and work, which has led to greater stress and psychological problems.

Reflective passage about Technobiophilia

Technobiophilia fits my topic very well, my topic is to explore the role of technology in helping people return to nature, This book’s author didn’t think that leaving the Internet is the only way to walk into nature, it can also be a part of the way for people to feel the nature.

At the beginning, the author emphasised the importance of contact with relaxation to people’s lives through some theories, and then showed some cases of people returning to nature ((Mainly about three camps of Internet technicians) and the birth of communities and resting places in the virtual world, which proves its positive effects and development history. Then she proved the authenticity of the virtual world and its increasingly important significance in people’s lives, and proved through many aspects that people have begun to fully participate in the era of mixed Internet and reality. In the end she once again emphasised the rest(theory of attention restoration), and provides a variety of ways as references from indoor, outdoor and Internet perspectives.

This book has two main points inspired me. The first one is that she provided the ART method. In previous projects, I repeatedly tried to let people be affected by the natural elements in the living environment, but I ignored how Let these content attract people autonomously or passively, while ART’s approach emphasises the necessity of attraction. In this part, she explained a lot of the connection between active attention and passive attention and intervals. In my opinion, active attention can actually be used as a good inducement to attract people to relax. At the same time, she said that the main reason why the computer runs slowly is not because it processes a single complex file, but processes multiple files at the same time. I think this can also be reflected in people, and it is better to let rest and contact with nature become a part of people’s lives,   which does not necessarily require a mandatory plan, but will be simpler and more effective to let everything happen naturally.

The second point is that the Internet itself is a part of nature. This point of view actually proved to a certain extent that it is not necessary to truly walk into nature to better solve the psychological problems caused by work fatigue. The Internet and the various indoor methods also Relative help can be provided, but the author still uses the previous pages to explain the real help to people by walking into nature. This is undeniable that it still has a strong leadership position at the present time, so how to use the current technology to combine the indoor, outdoor and Internet is a good direction for thinking.

There are many opinions and cases in the article that are consistent with the content of the research I have done before. The most impressive one is the case of izen garden. The app in this case tries to guide people to straighten the universe link anytime, anywhere and naturally in a portable way. I have analysed the same portable app Pokémon Go before, the two use different ways to link the natural and virtual worlds. However, I then investigated similar software in izen garden and saw that its instructions were vague, and after guiding there would be a lot of pages for the promotion of expensive products( such as their exclusive headset), the terrible user experience made me realise the importance of user-friendliness and the pure purpose of the popularity of a product.

To conclude, there are many cases and content in this book that are worthy of my continued study. I think I will search for more cases and analyse them based on my own experience.
